International Ballet School
What ages does International Ballet School teach?
International Ballet School offers classical ballet and dance training for ages 3–18, from a child’s very first ballet class through advanced and pre-professional training. Our youngest dancers begin with joyful, age-appropriate classes that introduce musicality, coordination, movement, and the foundations of classical ballet.
As students grow, their training grows with them through a progressive ballet education that builds year upon year. As dancers advance, their education expands to include ballet technique, pointe, variations, pas de deux, character, contemporary, and stretch and strength. For students seeking the highest level of training, International Ballet School also offers an intensive pre-professional day program.
Does my child need ballet experience to start?
No previous ballet experience is needed for our younger beginning students. International Ballet School offers age-appropriate beginning classes where children can develop a strong foundation in classical ballet from their very first class.
For older students, placement depends on age and previous dance or ballet training. Students coming to International Ballet School with prior experience are invited to take a class so our faculty can determine the level that will best support their continued training and development.
What makes International Ballet School different from other dance schools?
International Ballet School is designed to be a school a dancer can grow with. Rather than offering isolated classes, we provide a progressive classical ballet education in which each level builds upon the one before it. A child can begin with us as a young dancer and progress through increasingly comprehensive training to our advanced and pre-professional programs without having to change schools when they become more serious about ballet. Our goal is to develop strong technique, artistry, musicality and confidence while giving each student the foundation to pursue ballet at whatever level their talent and ambitions take them.
How do you determine which ballet level is right for my child?
Placement is based on a student's age, previous training and current technical level. Beginning students can generally be placed in an age-appropriate class, while students with previous ballet training may be invited to take a class so our teachers can determine the level that will best support their continued development. Because ballet training builds progressively, proper placement helps students develop safely and confidently without gaps in their training.
Do students have performance opportunities?
Yes. International Ballet School students have opportunities to perform in full-length and professional-caliber productions through International Youth Ballet, including our annual Nutcracker and spring productions. Performance experience is an important part of a dancer's education, helping students develop artistry, musicality, stage presence and confidence while learning what it means to be part of a production. Students in our Pre-Professional Day Program have additional performance opportunities, participating in two additional performances each year.
Can my child try a class before enrolling?
Yes. We encourage prospective students to experience International Ballet School before enrolling. A trial class gives your child the opportunity to meet our teachers, experience the class environment and see what training at IBS is like. It also allows our faculty to recommend the class or level that will best support your child's development. Contact us to schedule a trial class or personal evaluation.
Does International Ballet School offer opportunities for ballet competitions?
Yes. International Ballet School has a long history of preparing dancers for prestigious national and international ballet competitions. IBS students have participated in Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), Universal Ballet Competition (UBC), ADC IBC, Prix de Lausanne, USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi, and the Beijing International Ballet and Choreography Competition (IBCC) in Beijing, China.
Students interested in competition receive individualized private coaching and preparation, including technical and artistic coaching, variation preparation, and guidance in selecting repertoire appropriate to each dancer.
Competition is not required for every IBS student. For dancers who choose to participate, competitions provide an additional opportunity to develop technique and artistry, gain performance experience, and challenge themselves at a national or international level.
What areas does International Ballet School serve?
International Ballet School is located in Littleton, Colorado, and serves families throughout the south Denver metro area, including Littleton, Centennial, Lone Tree, Castle Pines, Castle Rock, Parker and South Denver. Families looking for children's ballet classes, classical ballet training or advanced and pre-professional ballet training travel to IBS from communities throughout the Denver area.
